: BIOL 24400/24400L and BIOL 24300. 

Description:
This course will examine ethical issues in the life sciences.  Progress in the sciences has produced many drugs and devices that can intervene in and alter human life at various levels.  Questions have been raised about the ethics of some of these interventions.  In this course students will explore ethical issues related to genetics, embryology and neuroethics.  Additionally, some issues in the realm of ecological ethics will also be examined.  Background necessary to understand the scientific aspects will be briefly reviewed, current scientific literature will be examined, and ethical controversies will be discussed.
