Prerequisites: BIOL 24400 Genetics AND BIOL 31600 Basic Microbiology or equivalent courses (BIOL 22100 may be used to substitute BIOL 31600) 

Description: This course is designed to introduce students to fundamental aspects of virology, the study of viruses. This entails a discussion of molecular virology and viral genetics, clinical manifestations of viral diseases, as well as historical aspects of virology. We will discuss specific, contemporary viral diseases in greater detail in an effort to integrate public health practices to combat outbreaks. Finally, students will have the opportunity to critically evaluate primary literature and selected reviews.
