WHITING, Ind. – The Purdue University Calumet men’s basketball team saw its season come to a close on Thursday night, suffering a 90-55 loss to Calumet St. Joseph in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference semifinals. The Peregrines wrap up the 2011-12 campaign with a 9-21 overall record.

Purdue Calumet came strong out of the gate, racing to a 16-8 lead in the first eight minutes of the contest after Alex Richman’s trifecta. However, the Crimson Wave would come storming back, as Robert Jackson capped off an 18-2 run that pushed CCSJ out in front, 26-18, just four minutes later.

Andrew Anderson stopped the bleeding with a jumper, but Calumet St. Joseph would pour it on in the final six minutes of action. The Crimson Wave led by as many as 16 in the period, before taking a 39-27 advantage into the break.

Purdue Calumet was unable to come back in the final stanza as it went ice cold from the field. The Peregrines managed just 25 percent shooting in the half as CCSJ took advantage. Calumet St. Joseph would connect on 57.1 percent of its shots in the period, blowing the game open and earning a trip to the conference championship game.

PUC finished with a 31.4 field goal percentage, while connecting on just 2-of-21 from beyond the arc. Each team committed 15 turnovers in the game, but the Crimson Wave would tally 26 points off turnovers compared to the Black and Gold’s 10 points off mishaps.

Richman topped the Peregrines with 18 points in his final collegiate game, while also pulling down seven rebounds. Anderson was the only other player in double-figures for PUC with 11 points. Kedric Williams wrapped up his season with a seven-point, 11-rebound effort, while Noah Allen tallied eight markers.

Series History
Purdue Calumet holds a slight 10-9 lead in the all-time series. The Peregrines will look to snap a two-game slide against CCSJ with a win today.

Scouting Purdue Calumet
The Peregrines have tallied a 9-20 overall record. PUC has four players averaging double-figures in scoring on the year, led by juniors Andrew Anderson and Kedric Williams with 15.9 and 15.4 points per game respectively. Three-point marksmen Alex Richman and Drew Ridlen are adding 13.0 and 10.6 markers a night.

Scouting Calumet St. Joseph
The Crimson Wave come into the game with a 16-12 overall record, having won eight-straight games. Roddy Richardson leads the way for the CCSJ, as the sophomore guard is posting a team-high 13.7 points per game with 64 3-point field goals on the year.

Last Time Out
Purdue Calumet missed two potential game-winning shots in the closing seconds, as Calumet St. Joseph pulled out a 71-70 victory last Saturday afternoon inside the Fitness and Recreation Center. Just when it looked like the Crimson Wave could ice the game at the charity stripe with four seconds left, the Black and Gold would make it interesting. Alex Richman stole the ensuing in-bound pass to bring the crowd to its feet, but his potential game-winner at the horn would hit the back iron and roll out. Purdue Calumet shot 39.3 percent from the fi eld, while knocking down nine shots from beyond the arc. However, the difference in the contest came on the glass, where Calumet St. Joseph was able to post a 38-24 advantage on their way to 19 second-chance points. Kedric Williams led all scorers with 23 points on 5-of-7 shooting from downtown. Andrew Anderson added 17 points and four assists, while Richman tallied 14 points, 4-of-8 from deep, and a game-high four steals.

ELGIN, Ill. – The Purdue University Calumet men’s basketball team used a 15-2 run in the final two minutes of play to pull out a 76-71 victory over No. 3 seed Judson University in the opening round of the CCAC Tournament on Tuesday night. The Peregrines improve to 9-20 overall with the third win in their last four contests.

Trailing by eight points, 69-61, with just 2:31 left in the game, PUC would make an improbable run to advance to the conference semifinals for the first time since joining the CCAC Div. II. Andrew Anderson started off the big run with two free throws at the 2:21 mark in the final stanza, before Alex Richman picked off a pass on the Eagles’ next possession and went coast-to-coast for the score.

Purdue Calumet would force yet another turnover, one of four Judson mishaps in the final two minutes, setting up a pair of free throws from Ty Miller to help the Black and Gold pull within two, 69-67, less than 30 seconds later.

The Eagles ran some clock to help slow down PUC’s run, but Kedric Williams would block a layup attempt from Adam Hodge and kick it ahead to Anderson for a score to tie the game at 69 apiece. Hodge put Judson back on top on its next possession, but the Peregrines would close out the contest on a 6-0 run to seal the victory.

The Black and Gold were able to overcome JU’s hot shooting in the opening period (51.9 percent), as the Eagles managed just 36.8 percent shooting in the final stanza. Purdue Calumet shot 40.6 from the field in the game, while knocking down seven shots from beyond the arc. The Peregrines had a strong outing at the charity stripe, connecting on 17-of-20 from the line on the night.

Richman led all scorers with 25 points on 4-of-9 shooting from downtown. Anderson finished with 21 points, six rebounds and a pair of blocks, while Williams added 15 points, eight boards and four steals. Trent Tucker ripped down a game-high 11 caroms and Delriko Curtis tallied three assists.

Purdue Calumet will return to the hardwood this Thursday, February 23, as it faces local rival Calumet St. Joseph with a bid to the CCAC Tournament championship game on the line. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
