No. 9 Cardinal Stritch Hands PUC Third-Straight Defeat

HAMMOND, Ind. – The Purdue University Calumet men’s basketball team could not keep pace with No. 9 Cardinal Stritch, as the Wolves rolled to a 92-71 victory on Saturday afternoon inside the Fitness and Recreation Center. The Peregrines slide to 6-19 overall and 3-8 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

PUC jumped out to an early 7-2 lead, as Kedric Williams capped off the quick spurt with a jumper just two minutes into the contest. The Wolves would answer back though, as they rattled off six-straight points before Williams drained a shot from deep to stop the bleeding. Andrew Anderson scored on the Black and Gold’s next possession to help push the lead back to four, 12-8, but CSU began to flex its muscle.

Stritch would open up a comfortable lead with an 11-0 run, as they pounded eight points in the paint during that span. Purdue Calumet was unable to provide a solid answer, however, as the Wolves pushed their lead to 17 points, 43-26, at halftime.

PUC could not trim the deficit to single-digits in the final stanza, as Cardinal Stritch cruised to the win and a sweep of the season series. The Peregrines were held to 38.3 percent shooting from the field, after connecting on just 35.3 percent of their shots in the second half. CSU recorded a 53.3 field goal percentage, thanks in large part to 46 points in the paint.

Williams led all scorers with 21 points to go along with his five rebounds and three steals. Alex Richman knocked down three treys on his way to a 15-point, five-assist effort, while Anderson finished with 15 points and nine rebounds. Trent Tucker notched seven points and six boards and Noah Allen had three steals.

PUC will return to the hardwood next Saturday, February 11, when it hosts Trinity International at the Fitness and Recreation Center for a 3 p.m. tip-off. The Black and Gold will look to snap its recent three-game slide and sweep the season series with the Trojans.
