
Stephaine Beck is a senior captain on the Purdue Calumet women’s basketball team. The hospitality and tourism management major is a four-year starter for the Peregrines and is already one of the top 10 scorers in school history with over 1,000 points in her career.
1. When did you start competing in basketball?
When I was seven-years old.
2. What has been the highlight of your athletic career so far?
Getting 1,000 points in high school and college.
3. What are your goals for this upcoming season?
Win CONFERENCE and win more than 20 games.
4. Who is your funniest teammate?
Brooklyn “Queen B” Short.
5. Do you have any nicknames?
Beck.
6. Who is your biggest hero?
My dad and best friend.
7. Do you have any superstitions?
I wear a certain wristband and take it off and put it around my water bottle before lineup introductions.
8. What is the top song on your iPod?
Country, surprisingly. My favorites are “Love” by Sugarland and “Incredible Machine” by Sugarland.
9. Who was your favorite player growing up?
J.J. Reddick and Mateen Cleaves.
10. Best movie you’ve seen recently?
Due Date.
11. If you are on a road trip and stop at a gas station, what snacks do you buy?
Gatorade, beef jerky and peanut M&M’s.
12. Dream vacation spot?
Australia.
13. What do you like on your pizza?
Pepperoni, green peppers and black olives.
14. Best player you’ve played against?
Melissa Lechlitner when I was in high school.
15. LeBron James or Kobe Bryant?
None of the above.
16. What is your favorite pre-game meal?
Roasted chicken breast sub from Subway with baked lays and a lemonade.
17. Favorite non-basketball hobby?
I like to collect things like socks, watches, hats and shoes. So, I guess shopping. I also enjoy running and working out.
18. What is your favorite class or professor at PUC and why?
All hospitality and tourism management professors. They genuinely care for each student.
19. What is something most people don’t know about you?
I own several pairs fo sneakers (it’s really bad) and my closet is colored coordinated.
20. How has playing collegiate athletics at PUC helped you in life?
Playing collegiate athletics at PUC has taught me many things in life. It has taught me how to face adversity, how to be a team player and how to stay disciplined. Playing basketball at PUC has shaped me into who I am.
