Fundamentals of Engineering

In order to become a Professional Engineer, one must pass two engineering exams. The first part is the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. After a minimum of four years of engineering experience beyond the BSxE degree, one may be entitled to participate in the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam. Passing of both exams is required for registration as a Professional Engineer. Only Professional Engineers can perform independent engineering in the form of consultation, investigation, evaluation, or design of engineering works and systems.

The next FE exam prep course begins on January 30th, 2013 and runs through April 10th, 2013.The registration deadline is January 29th (Tuesday).

The course will meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm to 9:30pm in Potter 334.

Fees for the course are $450 for current Purdue Calumet engineering students and $900 for non-PUC students. All course materials (books, handouts, etc.) will be provided.

Exam Prep Registration

Registration for the exam review course can be done in person or via credit card by phone.

Please complete and submit the FE registration form (PDF) before paying for the course. Registration must be completed before payments can be processed. The form can be emailed to Donna Gescheidler at Donna.Gescheidler@purduecal.edu or brought in person to Schneider Avenue Building room 097. Please note that it will take at least one business day to process the registration before payment can be made. Payments via credit card can be processed over the phone. To pay by phone, please contact the Student Services Business Office at (219) 989-2986.

To register on campus, please visit the Business Office, located inside the Schneider Avenue Building, room 097. Please note: to reach room 097, you must enter through entrance W8, on the Osborne Avenue side of the building. It is highly recommended that you park in the east parking lot. The fee for taking the FE exam is $125 and is not included in the cost of the course. For those who are not undergraduate students, the exam is scheduled for Saturday, April 13th, 2013 in Indianapolis. Current undergraduate students may still take the test in Indianapolis, but also have the option of taking the test at any approved university on the NCEES list [Opens in New Window] . The FE exam registration deadline is January 2nd for non-students and February 21st for current students. Please be aware of these dates if you are anticipating taking this exam immediately following the completion of the FE exam review course.
