Evidence Based Nursing

Indiana Center for Evidence Based Nursing Practice (EBNP):

A Joanna Briggs Collaborating Centre

The Indiana Center for Evidence Based Nursing Practice (ICEBNP) strives to enhance the public health and safety through the advancement of evidence based nursing practices. This vision can only be achieved through collaborative efforts within the university, with local partnerships and with regional, national, and international colleagues.

The ICEBNP will pursue its vision by developing programs and activities to generate new evidence through traditional research, synthesizing existing evidence from all legitimate sources, transferring evidence and promoting evidence utilization. Specifically, the purposes are to:

  • Conduct primary qualitative  and quantitative research
  • Conduct systematic reviews and train others in systematic review
  • Promote evidence transfer through the School of Nursing curricula, fee-for-service educational offerings, facilitating our clinical partners use of evidence and engaging in national and international innovations to enhance evidence transfer
  • Promote evidence utilization within the School of Nursing by nurses and other healthcare providers within the region as well as nationally and internationally

Joanna Briggs Institute Training Through ICEBNP

The aim of the workshop is to provide participants with rigorous methods and tools to appraise and synthesize evidence from research literature. Participants will have hand-on experience using JBI software tools to draft a systematic review protocol, including identifying a question, searching, retrieving, and selecting research for the review. They will critically analyze sample quantitative and qualitative research and text and opinion as part of the review process and use software to perform a meta-analysis and meta-aggregation of selected studies. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to examine the nature of evidence and its role in healthcare and further their understanding of how evidence transfers into healthcare practice.

The JBI workshop “Taking the Next Step: Giving Life to the Evidence” will be held Friday, October 25th, 2011. For more information and to register, please visit the JBI webpage.

Additionally, a Systematic Review Training workshop has been scheduled for June 24-28th, 2013. View the workshop info at the http://www.ebnp.org/profdev.html website.
