Board of Directors Annual Meeting Minutes
June 19, 2012, 6:30 p.m.
In Attendance: Blanca Aranda, Wendell Carey, Sheryl Corey, Alex Fenske, Shontrai Irving, Donna Lail, Tom Mavronicles, Victoria Merrill-Washington, Lisa Sargent, Tom Szczepanski, and Diana Virijevich
Absent: Chad Johnson, Robert Johnson, George Kopanakis, Sylvia Planer, Mary C. Shields

Welcome: Tom Mavronicles called the meeting to order at 6:41 p.m. Board members and guests introduced themselves. Tom Mavronicles read the PAC Mission Statement.
Election of New Board Member: Tom called for the vote on adding Kate DeRolf as a PAC Board of Directors Member and then excused Kate from the room for the voting. Donna Lail made a motion to accept Kate DeRolf’s request to join the Board of Directors. Blanca Aranda seconded motion. All were in favor, none opposed. Motion carried. Kate DeRolf was welcomed as a new PAC Board of Director and Tom requested that she be assigned to the New Alumni Committee.
President’s Report: Tom Mavronicles reminded the board that proposed budgets are due in three weeks. All activity from July 1 and forward will be recorded under the 2012/2013 budget.
Minutes: Mary Shields was absent so Tom Mavronicles asked that the May minutes be reviewed by all present. Wendell made a motion that minutes be accepted. Tom Szczepanski seconded motion. All were in favor, none opposed. Motion carried.
Financial Report: Blanca Aranda reviewed the financial report received from West Lafayette. Expenses for May totaled $587.50. The board spent only 40% of budgeted monies for the year and has a current balance of $14,047.78. Wendell made a motion to accept financial statement. Lisa Sargent seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Tom Mavronicles reviewed the committee’s activity for 2011/2012 and reviewed the history of PAC, PUC and City Hammond banners on Kennedy Ave and Indianapolis Blvd. For 2012/2013 Tom discussed how the Communications Committee will budget for logoed items to assist other committees in their events for alumni and future alumni. The committee will also investigate out-reach email programs to reach more alumni.
New Alumni Committee
Donna Lail reviewed the committee’s activity for 2011/2012, which included: PAC’s hosting refreshments for University Village Move-in Day and PAC logo laundry bags; hosting student organization representatives at PAC board meetings for partnerships development; and co-hosting the Grad Fair membership drive. For 2012/2013 the committee will host a PAC table at Student Convocation in August to provide information about PAC membership and give away PAC logo items.
Professional Development Committee
Lisa Sargent reviewed the committee’s activity for 2011/2012 which included: hosting the September Alumni Leaders Day event and Platinum Speaker Series – Marketing Yourself in a Tough Economy. For 2012/2013 the committee will host the September Alumni Leaders Day event and Platinum Speaker Series both in the fall and spring. The fall event will have a legal forum.
Shontrai Irving reviewed the committee’s activity for 2011/2012 which included sponsoring the Purdue Club NWI Fall Dinner; Tri-sponsored Wine Tasting Event , Purdue Club of Chicago Golf Outing; and Purdue Calumet Athletic Dept Golf Outing. For 2012/2013 the committee will host the Outing for Alumni with Young Children in August at a local water park; tri-sponsored Wine/Beer Tasting Event; Purdue Club NWI Fall or Spring Dinner; Purdue Club of Chicago Golf Outing and the PUC Athletic Department Golf Outing.
Social Sub Committee – PUC Athletics
This is a new committee that will start 2012/2013 and have planned the following activities/events: Host 1960 -1980 Athletic Team Member Reunion on “Back to School Weekend, Saturday; host “Meet Your New Athletic Team Coaches” event at TBD and Raffle off “Coach for a Game” prize and host Athletic Hall of Fame and Bob Hayes Alumni Award Event.
Tom subbing for Sylvia Planer reviewed the Committee’s activity for 2011/2012, which included: Co-sponsored Grad Fair PAC Membership information and offered new 2012 Grads a 40% discount on PAC Memberships up to the first 100 that signup. For 2012/2013 the Committee will host a Membership Drive Wine Tasting Event at the PUC’s HTM Wine Bar; Strategic Partnering – PUMA/PUC Course Project Assistance and once again sponsor Grad Fair PAC Membership information and offer new 2012 Grads a 40% discount on PAC Memberships up to the first 100 that signup.
Purdue Alumni: Chad Johnson was not present. Tom had nothing to report
Purdue Club NWI: Tom Szczepanski reported on the activities for 2012/2013 year which included: tri-sponsored Wine Tasting Event – HTM Bldg; Fall Football & Winter Basketball Watch Parties; Fall Dinner; and host the 2012 Coaches Caravan. For 2012/2013 the PCNWI will again host Fall Football & Winter Basketball Watch Parties; Fall Dinner and a spring event which will either be a Spring Dinner or another Coaches Caravan.
Purdue Club Chicago: Alex Fenske presented the events for 2011/2012 for PCC which included: tri-sponsored Wine Tasting Event – HTM Bldg; Fall Football & Winter Basketball Watch Parties; Purdue Club of Chicago Golf Outing; and host the 2012 Coaches Caravan. For 2012/2013 the PCNWI will again host Fall Football & Winter Basketball Watch Parties; 2013 Golf Outing; and 2013 Coaches Caravan event
Advancement: Diana Virijevich
Diana reviewed the Advancement Department 2012/2013 activities which included renewing an updated Crib Sheet application and continuing to increase our Facebook page participation. Board members and alumni have been invited to volunteer at the Lake County Fair information table 8/15 – 8/14. Other alumni dates include our Back to School Weekend (September 2 0 – 22), Indianapolis Alumni event – June 20, and Porter County Alumni– July 26.
A motion was made by Wendell to adjourn at 8:16 pm. This was seconded by Alex. All were in favor. None were opposed.
