Why Shakespeare: Rosencrantz and Guildenstern May be Dead but Shakespeare is Alive!

Presented by: Mita Choudhury, English & Philosophy

In this course, participants will look closely at Hamlet (a representative tragedy) and The Merchant of Venice (a representative comedy) in order to identify those themes and motifs that make Shakespeare relevant today. Additionally, participants will watch segments from the highly acclaimed films of these two plays. Michael Radford’s The Merchant of Venice (2004) and Kenneth Branagh’s Hamlet (1996).
