Experiencing “The Mall”: American History as Witnessed by the Great Memorials from Lincoln to FDR

Presented by: Joseph C. Bigott, History & Political Science

This course offers a general history of the memorials along “The Wall” in Washington, D.C. More importantly, this well-illustrated presentation raises questions about the nature of “historic” tourism. By doing so, the presentation suggests how parents, grandparents, and children might achieve a “satisfying” experience of history when visiting the great monuments of Washington.
