Course Evaluations Overview – Spring 2013
Dear Colleagues,
It is again time to invite your participation in the University’s semi-annual student evaluation of instructional effectiveness. The analysis can be valuable to you in determining student response to your teaching efforts.
For the Spring 2013 semester, there are three course evaluation options.
The three options include:
- IDEA Online Survey. This widely used Students Ratings of Instruction system has been customized to include the Purdue Calumet “cafeteria” questions.
- In-Class Paper-n-Pencil Survey (the classic “cafeteria” questions)
- Your own designed, delivered, analyzed evaluation instrument
To access detailed instructions for each of these evaluation tools please click on the following link:

If you choose to use this system, please follow the timeline below for ordering this online survey customized to your course objectives.
April 15th: You will receive a Faculty Information Form via your e-mail. Completion of this form will customize your results report and is required to initiate the survey for students.
Assistance Completing the Faculty Information Form:
- Online assistance (including a brief video tutorial) is available at:

Wednesday, April 17th from 3:00 – 3:30 in Anderson 315
Friday, April 19th from 10:00 – 10:30 in Anderson 315
If you have any questions about the IDEA survey or how to complete the Faculty Information form, you are encouraged to attend a question & answer session. Emily Hixon, Assoc. Monday, April 22nd - Saturday, May 4th: IDEA Survey available to students in your course(s) for completion on line.
Mid-June, 2013: You will receive your survey results via university mail.
OPTION #2 – In Class Paper-n-Pencil Survey
If you would like to use Paper & Pencil (Scantron) evaluations, please download and open the “Paper Evaluation Documents” attachment and follow the instructions provided.
OPTION #3 – Design Your Own, Delivered, Analyzed Evaluation Instrument
Instructors using other course evaluation methods will be solely responsible for administering the evaluation.
We hope you take the time to select the option(s) that best suits your needs. If you have any questions about the various options for course evaluations, please speak with your Dean or Department Head.
Thank you for your participation!
